How has crime changed in New Mexico since 1985?

Police in New Mexico reported about 648 violent crimes per 100,000 people in 2025 (U.S.: 329), down from a high of 983 in 1998, and 2,351 property crimes in 2025 (U.S.: 1,552), down from a high of 6,676 in 1997. There's no figure for 1988–1996, when police departments covering fewer than 3 in 4 of its people reported a full year. Rates count only the agencies that reported. Choose another state to compare.
