How has crime changed in Indiana since 1985?

Police in Indiana reported about 300 violent crimes per 100,000 people in 2025 (U.S.: 329), down from a high of 461 in 2017, and 1,252 property crimes in 2025 (U.S.: 1,552), down from a high of 4,239 in 1988. There's no figure for 1986–1987 and 1989–2000, when police departments covering fewer than 3 in 4 of its people reported a full year. Rates count only the agencies that reported.
