What is the most popular girls' name in each state?
In 2025, Charlotte was the most popular girls' name in 28 states, even though Olivia was the top name nationally. In Vermont, 3.6% of girls were named Charlotte, the highest share of any state's top name. Each bar is the top name's share of girls born in the state that year; it counts only names given to at least 5 girls in the state, because Social Security leaves out the rest, so it slightly overstates the true share.
