How many consumer complaints are about credit reports?

88.4% of the complaints the CFPB received in 2025 were about credit reports, up from 50% in 2019 and 13% in 2013. Most said a report had wrong information (2.83 million complaints in 2025) or that someone used a report improperly (1.10 million). The CFPB began taking complaints about credit reports in late 2012, so 2012 is low. Complaints aren't verified: the CFPB publishes them without checking the facts.
