Kellogg Company, of Battle Creek, MI, recalled Kashi Chewy Trail Mix Granola Bars 1.2 oz individual bar 6 count retail carton (7.4 oz.) and 5 other products. The FDA's reason: “Product contains sunflower seeds potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children,...” The FDA classified it Class I: it could cause serious harm or death. The company began the recall voluntarily on May 31, 2016, and the FDA first listed it in its Enforcement Report of July 27, 2016. The FDA has closed the recall: it found the company did all it reasonably could to remove or correct the product.
