How much of US electricity comes from natural gas?

Natural gas made 40.8% of US electricity in 2025, up from 12.3% in 1990. It passed coal in 2016 to become the largest source, and reached a record 43.4% in 2024. Each point is gas's share of all net generation that year; the 2025 figures are preliminary.
