Make a Chartly GPT for ChatGPT
A Chartly GPT answers questions with numbers from Chartly's charts, each with its date, its source and a link to the chart. It reads the same free data feed as everyone else, with no key or account. Paste the settings below into ChatGPT's GPT editor and it's ready in a few minutes.
How to set it up
- In ChatGPT, open Explore GPTs, choose Create, then the Configure tab.
- Fill in the name, description, instructions and conversation starters below.
- Under Actions, choose "Create new action", leave Authentication as None and import the schema from
https://chart.ly/openapi.json. - For the privacy policy, use
https://chart.ly/privacy. - Try a question in the preview, then save it and choose who can see it, such as the GPT Store.
Name and description
Instructions
These tell the GPT to look every number up, quote it with its date and source, and link the chart it came from, which the feed's terms require.
Conversation starters
- How big is the U.S. national debt?
- Is rent going up?
- Which states have the highest median household income?
- Is crime falling in the U.S.?
The action
The GPT has two read-only operations from the data feed: searchCharts finds the charts that best
match a few keywords, and getChart reads one chart's numbers, source, license and date. The schema
is a standard OpenAPI 3.1 document, so other tools can use it too.

The one condition
Like everything built on the feed, a GPT that quotes a chart's numbers must credit its source and Chartly with a link to that chart. See the data feed for the details, or add Chartly to ChatGPT or Claude yourself with the connector.
