Which states get the most electricity from coal?
The interactive chart needs JavaScript. The numbers are on the chart's page.
In 2025 coal made 86.7% of West Virginia's electricity, followed by Kentucky (65.4%) and Missouri (64.3%). Across the US it made 16.6%, and some states made none. Each bar is coal's share of the electricity generated in that state, which may differ from what its homes use; the 2025 figures are preliminary.
